Secretariat General of the Higher Education Council

The Accreditation and Licensing Directorate is one of the directorates of the Office of Assistant Secretary-General for Evaluation and Follow-up in the Secretariat General of the Higher Education Council, the Directorate plays a role in supervising higher education institutions and in following up their affairs. Furthermore, it is responsible for monitoring academic programs and other support services provided by higher education institutions in order to achieve quality of performance and outcomes.

The directorate is subdivided into three departments:

1. Licensing Department.
2. Academic Accreditation Department.
3. Accreditation and Licensing Standards Department.

The tasks of Accreditation & Licensing Directorate are:

• Guidance of investors and provide the requested information with respect to the field of investment in higher education.
• Provide information and statistical data, rules and regulations and to provide institutions of higher education by.
• Study of license applications for the establishment of new institutions of higher education.
• Study the applications to amend a license of higher education institutions.
• Study the applications for developing programmers or new academic majors.
• Follow-up financial matters relating to institutions of higher education.
• Follow up the recruitment process of all staff members (academic, administrative and technical) in higher education institutions.
• Consider the applications for advertisements license of higher educational institutions of various kinds.
• Provide administrative support to the following committees:

• Commission for Academic Accreditation.
• Engineering Committee.
• Committee for examining applications for the establishment of private higher education institutions.
• Scientific Examination Committees.

• Coordination with various directorates and departments in the Secretariat General in order to accomplish the tasks assigned to it, and providing effective channels of communication between departments and sections in other sectors.
