Labour Minister meets Higher Education Council Secretary-General

Labour and Social Development Minister, Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, met the Secretary-General of the Higher Education Council (HEC), Dr. Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Duaij Al Khalifa.

The minister congratulated Dr. Shaikha Rana on the precious royal trust bestowed upon her by appointing her to her post, and discussed with her ways to enhance cooperation between the Labour Ministry and the HEC to serve projects and initiatives aimed at boosting the training and education sectors in the kingdom.

Humaidan lauded the efforts exerted by Bahrain to develop higher education in order to meet the present and future needs of the labour market, praising the crucial role played by the Supreme Council for the Development of Education and Training, led by Deputy Prime Minister, HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, and including Education Minister, Dr. Majid bin Ali Al-Nuaimi, as a member.

The minister reviewed the main initiatives implemented through cooperation and integration among the strategic partners in the training sector, such as the Employability Skills Portal, the “Skills Bahrain” project, the Apprenticeship Project, the Bahrain Vocational Qualifications, the National Plan of Vocational Counseling and Guidance, in addition to the preparation of periodic studies on the labour market, the monitoring of the labour market’s indicators and the creation of unconventional job opportunities that keep pace with technological changes, which contributes to drawing new areas for training and education, and opening up new horizons for the citizens wishing to choose the vocational training path in preparation for entering the labour market.

Dr. Shaikha Rana affirmed the keenness of the Higher Education Council to implement programmes and initiatives aimed at developing the education curricula at private universities so that they would meet the present and future needs of the labour market, which requires cooperation and integration among the relevant parties.

In this regard, she praised the ongoing cooperation between the Labour Ministry and the Higher Education Council, which have yielded many joint programmes that aim to achieve the shared national goals.
